Thursday, 19 June, I attended a marimba concert with my next hostess, where I will move in about two weeks. Her daughter was playing in the middle school marimba band.
There were eight schools represented, beginning with a group number before each school played two or three songs, and concluding with a marimba arrangement of “Time to Say Goodbye.” We are talking about 200 kids and more than 70 marimbas squeezed into the front of this auditorium, and it was quite a spectacle! As can be expected, some schools were better than others, but most were very good, and the kids were all having a grand time, dancing to the music and marimba’ing their little hearts out.
When one school was playing the other seven were sitting in the balcony, and it was almost as fun to turn and watch the kids in the balcony sing and dance to songs like Every Breath You Take and Doo Be Doo. It was great fun, I wish I had done marimba in middle school…
