Pilanesburg National Park

Monday, 16 June, Cathy, Irwin and I packed into the car at 6:30AM and headed to Pilanesburg National Park for the National Holiday (though no one seemed to know or care about what the holiday was celebrating).

Pilanesburg is a game park about 2 and a quarter hours northwest of Johannesburg. I’ll let the pictures tell the story, but I was behind the wheel on these dirt roads for three hours in the afternoon, having to pause for warthogs, zebras, and giraffes as they crossed the road.

These Zebras walked right next to the car and started fighting for us, it was a private boxing match.

Caution: Giraffe crossing. I wouldn't want to challenge them for right of way.

There is a white rhino in there somewhere... I promise

We saw this fellow before entering the bird Hide, though we didn't see any birds from the Hid itself...

This was number 3 of 4 crossing in front of us. I don't recall the type of animal, but Irwin called it lion fodder.

Warthog crossing, a momma, a poppa, and the kiddos.

Our safari vehicle

Impala, a.k.a. lion fodder. We only saw one buck in this group!

After a hard morning's drive, nothing like a nice picnic and a cool drink.

A seriously nice picnic, with salad, burgers, avocado, silverware, cushions...

A toucan keeping guard over our picnic...

And this view of a lake. It was a hard day.
