Cry, The Beloved Country
I've just read Alan Paton's Cry, The Beloved Country. Written in 1946, I found it to be quite accurate for the current social establishment... strikingly, even depressingly similar. It is a quick and informative read and I would encourage anyone looking to understand a little more about race dynamics (it was written two years before Apartheid became formal, yet you can see the segregation in place) or many of the challenges facing contemporary South African culture, it is a nice, casual introduction which I would be pleased to discuss with anyone.
