Holiday Club

Well, you know it's been a long time since you've blogged when your browser doesn't remember the web address for your site...

Lets begin: 30 volunteer leaders, from sophomores in High School up to college age, sleeping over Friday and Saturday nights as they are trained to lead 5 to 13 year olds in activities for a week. Mel is suddenly put on bed rest. Steven now gets to do ¾ of training. It was a long weekend.

There’s no time to really fast-forward, but 90 kids show up on Monday and the game is on! There were crafts, skits, songs and small groups. Highlights include Pudding Pigout, where leaders supplied pudding and the kids brought sweets to create art and flavor. As a judge I became ill for the rest of the day after sampling 14 dishes of pure sugar. Also the Friday Fun Fair, where the kids were invited to bring their parents and play carnival-style games at the church, such as a pillow fight where contestants were seated on a beam 4 feet off the ground and fell to the couch cushions below when they lost.

It was a fun, long, exhilarating, exhausting week! (June 28-July 4)

Below you can see me looking like the team manager- these are the brave and valiant leaders who volunteered their week off from school!
